This lecture will focus on non traditional ways of managing pain associated with the parturient.

Discussion of current multi-modal drug options and regional anesthetic nerve blocks for post-op pain management as options for decreasing and minimizing opioid use. Presentation on the techniques for performing the US guided FICB and US guided popliteal sciatic block.

Key objective of this session:

Mutli-Modal pharmacology treatment and regional nerve blocks can improve post-operative pain limit the usage of opioid medications and the side effects they may cause.

*Exparel as an Adjunct

This session is designed to discuss the indications, benefits, and risks associated with the use of Exparel (bupivacaine liposome) as an effextive adjunct in the management of post-operative pain following select surgical procedures (i.e. orthopedics, general surgery). Enhanced recovery from anesthesia can be optimized through the use of non-opioid or opioid-sparing agents such as Exparel.


Key objective of this session:

After the session the participants will be able to identify the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of Exparel.

*Local Anesthesia Toxicity

Local anesthesia systemic toxicity (LAST) is an uncommon but severe complication of regional blocks with the advent of ultrasound guided technique. When LAST occurs seconds count in reversing its effects. The LAST protocol is an effective modality in preventing the undesired morbidity and mortality effects of LAST if not recognized nor treated early.

After this session participants will be able to outline and describe the clinical protocal for local anesthesia systemic toxicity (LAST).

Comprehensive review of the process of obtaining and optimizing reimbursement for anesthesia services as well as awareness of current compliance trends.


Key objectives of this session:

 

  1. Learner will be able to identify the basic formula for billing anesthesia services.

  2. Learner will be able to identify use of ICD-10 codes and appropriate anesthesia CPT codes as they relate to procedures.

  3. Learner will understand the difference between the Anesthesia Type of Service 7 and the Procedural Type of Service 2 and how they relate to billing for their own services.

  4. Learner will be able to evaluate their individual productivity utilizing a template for facility payer mix and anesthesia productivity.

  5. Learner will be able to identify billing issues that can result in lack of Compliance and Fraud.

  6. Learner will understand the purpose of Recovery Audit Contractors
